Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Presidential aspirant Dr John Magufuli has vowed to improve the welfare of civil servants, especially teachers and doctors, to ensure that they get good social services.
He made the pledge when addressing a campaign rally at Mlamba ward in Mkinga District, Tanga Region.
He said the main factor pushing the government to improve civil servants’ welfare is to ensure that ‘wananchi’ access the social services without any difficulty.
“I promise to serve all Tanzanians regardless of their political affiliation once elected as Tanzania’s fifth president. I will work to ensure achievement of the country’s fast development,” said the CCM presidential flag bearer.
He said civil servants who implement their duties efficiently would be on the safe side. However, he said, his government will deal mercilessly with those who underperform because of laxity and negligence.
He declared: “I need to work with a team that will come up with solutions to problems facing Tanzanians.”
He said if elected President he would construct the country’s roads to tarmac level. He pledged the government's resolve to see roads are completed to ease traffic jam in urban areas.
“I promise you that I will never let you down. I will construct the roads to tarmac level, just vote for me and other CCM candidates to parliament and local government councils,” he said.
In Korogwe town Dr Magufuli said his cabinet would comprise responsible ministers and lazy civil servants would not be tolerated, noting: “My cabinet will be well-organised”.
He promised to curb corruption and enhance revenue collection for the benefit of the people.
Earlier, the CCM parent wing, TAPA, chairman, Abdalah Bulembo said the nomination process for the party’s presidential aspirant was fair. He said Chadema’s Presidential candidate Edward Lowassa, who had crossed over from CCM, was treated fairly.
Bulembo said he wondered why Lowassa was complaining, he was not the only candidate whose name was disqualified. They include Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, Vice President Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilal, retired Chief Judge Augustino Ramadhan and several cabinet ministers.
