MCT Executive Secretary Kajubi Mukajanga
The Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) has established Information Resource Centres at its Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar offices to avail resources and up-to-date references for journalists and other media personnel in the regions.
“The centres will also serve editors, policy and law makers, researchers on media and human rights activists,’ detailed the MCT Executive Secretary Kajubi Mukajanga.
“These facilities provide a rare avenue for media practitioners, researchers, tutors and students to consolidate their professionalism and also serves as a platform to enhance self regulation of media houses,” he detailed.
Mukajanga said a major objective of the Council is to ensure that the media fraternity adheres to the highest professional and ethical standards.
“It will also help to safeguard and maintain the freedom of the media in Tanzania,” he added.
He said the centre will be stocked with local and international journals, research reports, training resources and workshop papers.
“It will also have reports and latest publications by various acclaimed authors, institutions and texts on specific topics such as freedom of expression, media law and ethics, journalism and mass communication, governance and children’s rights,” he noted.
“All those will be in our centre whereby some of the resources are available in both print and electronic formats,” Mukajanga detailed.
“MCT wishes to invite members of the public from all walks of life to visit and make use of these vital facilities,” he said emphasising that there is no charge to use the facilities.
He said in Dar es Salaam city the centre is located at the MCT headquarters in Mwenge, Kinondoni District and for Zanzibar, the IRC is located at the MCT Zanzibar office in the Bombay Bazaar building along Mlandege Road.
