You Have to Go to Work

One of the first excuses you should give is that you have received a call to go to work. With unemployment being a major fear across the country, no one will even try to convince you to attend that social event when you've got work to do.

Important Family Event to Attend

While you are receiving an invite to a social event, simply interject with information regarding an important family event you must attend. Family life is quite a big deal for many people, so no one will want to come between you and your loved ones.

Not Feeling Well

No one is immune from illnesses and this is something that you can work to your favor. Simply pick up the phone and let the host know that you are ailing from an illness and simply cannot attend that social event. You wouldn't want to spread those germs, after all.
Ignore it All

Ignore it All

The next excuse is quite easy and takes no effort at all. All you have to do is ignore messages, calls, or any other form of contact the inviter tries to make. Keep in mind you may have to explain why you were not responding to texts and calls when you meet the inviter sometime in the future. This approach is a little brash, so only use it when you're desperate.
Out of Town

Out of Town

Pick up the phone and confidently inform your inviter that you are out of the country or town. In order for this to work, ensure you have not posted anything to the contrary on social media and be sure to check your location settings on all devices. A point of caution: under no circumstance should you ever bump into the person you are avoiding. This means you're going to have to stay in the house to pull this one off.
Waiting for Someone or Something Special

Waiting for Someone or Something Special

Inform your inviter that you are waiting for someone special or a special delivery before you can leave home. This gives you leeway in deciding when you will go for the event, or you can skip it and later complain about how the person or delivery came in late. Nobody can blame you for a late package.
You are Broke

You are Broke

Simply tell the inviter that you are broke and will not be able to make it. This will work seamlessly, except if your inviter is the generous type who will offer to foot your bills. Use this excuse cautiously; try reserving it for those who you know won't shell out to cover your partying costs.
You are Exhausted

You are Exhausted

All you need to do here is let the person inviting you know that you are exhausted from some activity you just finished. Only someone who is truly unreasonable would force someone to attend a social event when they're feeling beat. Explain how you stayed up till late and haven't had enough sleep. Make sure you sound and look tired as well when delivering this excuse, just for authenticity.
Say You Already Have Plans

Say You Already Have Plans

Simply say you already have plans and cannot break them, as they are quite important. This will work if the person inviting you is not the type that wants to know what your plans are, and it will also work if they're the type of person who wouldn't want you to break your other social obligations. If they ask about your plans, you may have to think fast and come up with a clever lie or else you will be done.

Get an Injury

No not a real injury, instead, put your creativity to the test and come up with some form of fake injury. It could be a leg injury, muscle pull or just about anything to get your inviter off your back. Just remember, if you see the host while you're out doing something else, you might need to hobble a little.

Get an Appointment

An appointment with the doctor is something no one would dare miss right? Well, why don't you fake one for yourself? Let's be honest, it's not as though the inviter will start calling your physician to double check.

The Babysitter

Everyone loves babies and no one will hold it against you for missing an event because you are babysitting. The only thing you have to figure out here is whose baby you will be babysitting. If all else fails, make one up. Your long lost cousin who lives out of state should do.
Forgot About It

Forgot About It

Everyone forgets things from time to time. You are only human and you can just claim forgot all about the social event. Warning: this one can cause serious offence if the event is particularly important.
